Parshvasana yoga pose 


Parsva means "side" in Sanskrit, and parsvakonasana is a yoga pose that stretches and strengthens the muscles of the legs, hips, and torso. It is also a great way to open up the chest and improve posture.


To begin, stand in mountain pose (tadasana) with your feet together and your arms by your sides. Take a deep breath in and, as you exhale, step or jump your feet wide apart. Turn your right foot out 90 degrees and your left foot in slightly.


As you inhale, raise your arms up to the sky, reaching through your fingers. Exhale, and as you do, bend your right knee, keeping your left leg straight. Make sure your knee is directly over your ankle and not extending past your toes.


As you continue to breathe deeply, bring your left hand down to your left hip and your right hand behind your head. Gaze up at your right hand, and hold the pose for several breaths.


To release the pose, straighten your right leg and come back to mountain pose. Repeat on the other side.
